8 Unique Ways to Support Habitat

8 Unique Ways to Support Habitat

As a 100% locally-supported Habitat for Humanity affiliate, our work in the greater Sacramento region is made possible by partnerships and people right here in our backyard. There are many ways to be part of ensuring our neighbors have a stable, affordable place to call home and thrive. Whether you’re planning for the future or looking to support right now, find out more about these 8 unique ways you can be part of our mission.

1. Leave a Legacy

Make impact for years to come by including Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento in your estate plan or will. Planned giving is a flexible and easy way to empower local families to become homeowners which costs nothing now. Through cash support, property, or assets, you can leave a legacy which changes lives for generations.

2. Support through Stocks

Stocks, bonds and mutual funds that have appreciated in value are among the best ways to ensure that Habitat can help reduce housing instability for families in our local community. You may receive a charitable income tax deduction and avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the value of the stock. With the tax deadline approaching on December 31st, charitable giving in this way may help you plan your deductions – we recommend speaking with your financial advisor to learn more!

3. Arrange an Annuity

A Charitable Gift Annuity allows you to gift a substantial donation to Habitat for Humanity while receiving tax-favored income for life. Charitable gift annuities offer attractive payout rates for those who want to receive income and provide families the opportunity to become self-reliant through safe, affordable housing. Talk to your financial advisor to find an option that’s right for you!

4. With your Workplace

Many greater Sacramento area employers facilitate charitable giving through pre-tax payroll deduction, such as through the United Way Our Promise campaign. In addition, many organizations will match employee contributions to double the impact you make for the causes you love. Ask your employer to find out if they have an existing campaign or how you can start one!

Habitat partners each year with hundreds of local organizations to build and repair homes through home sponsorship, team building volunteer days, and grant funding. Interested in getting your workplace involved in changing the lives of local families? Contact us to learn more about programs which might be a good fit, or to share opportunities to apply for grant funding! Not sure when your organization’s philanthropic funding or grant cycle is? We recommend asking your employer or HR team – and please be sure to let us know!

5. Services or Supplies

Habitat is always looking for creative ways to partner with builders and contractors in our community. Through a tax-deductible donation of in-kind materials such as windows, lumber, and hardie siding, or services such as plumbing and roofing labor, we can stretch our funding further to serve more families and build more stability in our community.

6. Recycle your Ride

The Habitat Cars for Homes program is a great way to give new life to your old car, RV, or motorcycle (and more – even snowmobiles!) while giving back and receiving a tax deduction. Towing services will come to you, and it’s quick, easy, and contactless. Revenue generated from your donation goes right back to the local community to help build and repair homes. Check out carsforhomes.org for details or to schedule a donation!

7. Declutter and Donate

Do you have usable materials from a home improvement project or home furnishings from a recent upgrade taking up space in your garage or empty-nester room? The Habitat ReStore can keep your items out of the landfill, offer them to our community at an affordable price, and turn your donated items into support for our home ownership and home repair programs. Find out how at habitatgreatersac.org/restoredonate!

8. Give a Gift

A cash or check donation is the fastest and easiest way to make direct impact today. Every dollar makes a difference as we build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.

Give online today through our secure donation page at give.classy.org/sachabitat or send us a check at 819 North 10th Street, Sacramento, CA 95811.

We can immediately focus your gift to empower local families, provide generational equity building opportunities through home ownership, and transform the lives of our neighbors to build a stronger community.
