Meet Yama & Muzhda

Children: Ahmad Muzamil, Ahmad Mudasir, Ahmad Ozayer, and Yaser

Tenacity and commitment guide Yama and Muzhda as they build a life for their four sons—Ahmad Muzamil, Ahmad Mudasir, Ahmad Ozayer, and Yaser. Since settling in Sacramento, they have remained focused on creating stability and opportunity for their family.

Before emigrating, Yama was a medical doctor in Afghanistan and hopes to one day obtain his license to continue practicing in the United States. Until then, Yama works for Sacramento County’s Department of Human Assistance, contributing to his community while supporting his family. Following Yama and Muzhda’s example of setting ambitious goals, their two oldest sons currently study software engineering and medicine at Sacramento State and UC Davis. Together, the family emphasizes the importance of education, hard work, and creating a supportive home environment.

Before partnering with Habitat for Humanity, the family lived in a two-bedroom apartment that was overcrowded with a household of six. Three of their sons shared one bedroom, while Yama, Muzhda, and their youngest child shared the other. “This lack of space has taken a toll on our children’s ability to sleep, study, and have privacy,” shared Yama.

The apartment also presented ongoing maintenance and health concerns, like recurring mold and poor ventilation, which have led their 8-year-old son to develop perpetual allergy symptoms.

Throughout the years of challenges, Yama and Muzhda remained focused on building a better future.

Their Habitat home now provides the space and safety they have been striving toward. Their children have room to learn and grow, and the family can enjoy a healthier, more supportive environment. With newfound stability and security, Yama looks forward to pursuing his goal of becoming a medical doctor in the U.S.

For Yama, Muzhda, and their four sons, homeownership represents a new beginning—one that allows their family to move forward with confidence, dignity, and a strong foundation for the future.
