On Saturday, September 24th at 10am the Prasad family will receive the keys to their family’s new Habitat home on Eleanor Avenue.
Thanks to several generous sponsors including the Sally and Dick Roberts Coyote Foundation, Rainforth Grau, the Winn Foundation, ProSight, the SMUD Employee Charity Drive, George & Patricia Lytal, Huhtamaki, Valspar, Tri Counties Bank, an anonymous generous donors, and the Lowe’s National Women Build Week – the Prasad family was given the opportunity to work for their dream of homeownership.
Rakesh and Madhu Prasad have three children. The family of five has been living in an over-crowded two bedroom apartment. Madhu’s teenage son Melvin suffers from a medical condition. Over the past few years, his condition has become so severe that Rakesh had to quit his job to take care of him. His wife, Madhu, works two full time jobs (80 hours a week) in the healthcare industry to support the family. The family has long yearned for a home of their own where everyone in their family would be able to sleep in a bedroom, but they simply have been unable to afford it.
On July 29th, 2015 the Prasad family was accepted into the Habitat program and started working on their required 500 hours of sweat equity. They were overjoyed when they received their home assignment for 611 Eleanor with Mr. Prasad exclaiming, “What an incredible blessing!”
All are welcome to join us for this very special dedication on Saturday, September 24th at 10am at 611 Eleanor Avenue Sacramento, CA 95815. Lunch will be served by the Prasad family immediately following the dedication ceremony. For more information or to share this event, please click HERE.
***Even after completing their required 500 hours, Rakesh has continued to volunteer throughout the completion of his family’s new home.
