Meet Latanya & Family

Children: Albert, Tullea, and Gary

Strength, service, and resilience shape Latanya’s approach to both her work and her role as a mother. As she raises her three children—Albert, Tullea, and Gary—she remains committed to building a life rooted in stability, opportunity, and community.

Latanya’s childhood and adolescent years were marked by the violence, addiction, and instability that surrounded her – yet she was determined to create a different path for herself. Through incredible resolve, discipline, and hard work, Latanya broke the cycles that trauma and adversity had engrained in her family. As a mother, she focuses on providing her children with the support, guidance, and safety that she lacked in her youth.

Today, Latanya works for the City of Sacramento’s Public Works Department and embraces a devotion to serving others. Beyond her career, she stays actively involved in her community, mentoring youth, organizing outreach efforts, and encouraging her children to participate in service projects that give back to those around them. At home, she emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and personal growth, keeping her children engaged in organized sports and activities that help them develop confidence and resilience.

Before partnering with Habitat for Humanity, the family lived in a home where limited space required the children to share rooms in ways that did not allow for privacy or quiet. The tight quarters and overall environment took a toll on the family’s comfort and well-being, even escalating the asthma symptoms suffered by two of the children. Still, Latanya remained focused on building a better future – one that would support her children’s health, education, and long-term success.

Today, their Habitat home provides the space and stability she has worked so hard to create, and the family enjoys a healthier, more supportive living environment.

For Latanya, homeownership is a continuation of her life’s work—building a foundation where her children can thrive, honor the values she has instilled in them, and carry those lessons forward into their own futures. “Homeownership is not just about having a house,” says Latanya. “It’s about giving my children the security of knowing they will always have a safe place to come home to.”
