Following an extremely competitive selection process, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento and Habitat’s Development Director Laine Himmelmann have been selected as one of 10 finalists to pitch at the Golden 1 Center on April 3rd as part of this year’s SVP Fast Pitch event for a chance to win over $50,000 in cash awards and in-kind services.
Every year dozens of nonprofits apply for the opportunity to take part in SVP Fast Pitch (over the past four years SVP Fast Pitch has awarded over $90,000 in cash awards with over $800,000 in follow-on funding to Fast Pitch contestants attributed to taking part in the event). 20 nonprofits are selected into the cohort and over the course of several months work with coaches to perfect their 3 minute fast pitch on which they are critiqued and rated. Last month, 10 nonprofits were cut from the cohort and 10 were selected to officially take the stage on April 3rd.
Says Laine, “I am honored and proud beyond measure for the chance to represent the small, but mighty team of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento on April 3rd at this high profile and high stakes event in our community. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous, but every time at our pitch sessions when we were competing for the top 10 spots I’d think about all the families we’ve helped in my time here and how many more we could help if Habitat were to win this. Some things are more important than nerves and that’s exactly what I plan to focus on when April 3rd comes around.”
Laine plans to make her pitch to ask for $75,000 of matching support for Habitat’s upcoming “Rock the Block” event – a 2-day blitz neighborhood revitalization build event which will happen this September. The critical annual event brings together hundreds of volunteers and dozens of community partners and businesses to repair homes and support various community projects in South Oak Park. If raised at SVP Fast Pitch and coupled with existing funds, Habitat would be able to double the impact of the pilot 2018 Rock the Block and could repair up to 30 homes in the high need community.
We invite you to join us on Wednesday, April 3rd from 5:30-8:30pm to root on Habitat’s very own Laine Himmelmann as she takes center stage at this year’s SVP Fast Pitch event!
General Admission tickets are $25 and can be purchasedHERE.
