U.S. Bank donates $55,000 to help Habitat for Humanity #BuildBack

$20,000 will be offered as dollar for dollar match funding for Big Day of Giving

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento long-time partner, U.S. Bank, has pledged a total of $55,000 to support the local affordable housing nonprofit with programs and operating support following COVID-19-related loss of resources. Up to $20,000 of the U.S. Bank donation will be leveraged as Big Day of Giving 2020 match dollars to help Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento #BuildBack and resume currently halted construction operations.

With the March COVID-19 related closure of the Habitat ReStore, a home improvement donation center and retail outlet, Habitat lost $120,000 a month in critical operating funding to pay for rent, utilities, and staff. 90% of employees were furloughed until PPP funding was secured last week.  The nonprofit affordable home builder is now laser-focused to #BuildBack starting with Big Day of Giving – the annual 24-hour giving campaign hosted every first Thursday of May by the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation. This year, Habitat has a goal to raise $40,000 through Big Day of Giving to help re-open the Habitat construction sites.

U.S. Bank has committed to helping Habitat get there by pledging to double up to $20,000 in community Big Day of Giving donations to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento.

U.S. Bank has also committed to an additional $35,000 on top of the $20,000 Big Day of Giving matching dollars to support critical needs and Phase 1 of Habitat’s upcoming 13-home community development which is set to begin construction later this year.

“Every individual and family deserves access to safe, accessible and affordable housing – that’s why U.S. Bank has volunteered nearly 20,000 hours to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento over the years,” said Pam Maxwell, Sacramento market community affairs manager at U.S. Bank. “By matching Big Day of Giving donations up to $20,000, we are powering the potential for others to make a difference in their communities one neighborhood at a time.”

U.S. Bank and employee volunteers have supported virtually every existing Habitat for Humanity program, including Home Build, Home Repairs, Playhouse Builds, Rock the Block, and Women Build.

In addition to those nearly 20,000 hours in volunteer muscle, over the past two decades U.S. Bank has also donated nearly half a million dollars to fund affordable Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento home build and repair projects for low-income families, seniors, and veterans.

Says Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento President and CEO, Leah Miller, “There is still a long road to go to get back in momentum to where we were before this crisis hit – but we are so appreciative of support from incredible partners like U.S. Bank and opportunities to leverage that support like Big Day of Giving so we can get back to doing what we do best – building hope and homes for those desperately in need of affordable housing in our region.”

Big Day of Giving supporters can donate on May 7th or pre-schedule a donation which will also qualify for U.S. Bank matching dollars by visiting BigDayofGiving.org/Habitat.
