Safe, affordable housing is needed more than ever, and COVID-19 has highlighted how much we rely on “home” being a safe place to work, build equity, stay healthy, learn and shelter from heat, storms, and pandemics.
Habitat builds forward to support working families and underserved individuals in our community who desperately need a safe, decent place to call “home”. U.S. Bank has been a long-time partner with Habitat in helping making home possible and this year; U.S. Bank is making a substantial commitment to support Habitat’s Big Day of Giving campaign so Habitat can continue to build forward for those in critical need of affordable housing in our region.
U.S. Bank Partners to Help Habitat Build Bigger
As a long-time supporter of the Habitat mission to build and repair affordable housing in the Sacramento community, U.S. Bank has donated nearly $400,000 and more than 20,000 volunteer hours over the past two decades. The organization and its employee volunteers have supported virtually every existing Habitat program, including Home Builds, Home Repairs, Playhouse Builds, Rock the Block, and Women Build events. This year, U.S. Bank continues the tradition of support with a pledge of up to $25,000 in matching funds for Big Day of Giving on May 6th.
That means for every dollar donated to Habitat up to $25,000 – U.S. Bank will match it and double the donor’s donation!
“The last year has shown us all the importance of having a home – from providing shelter during uncertain and unprecedented times to serving as a much-needed workplace place for virtual learning and remote work. At U.S. Bank we remain committed to supporting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento because we believe that individuals and families are better positioned to thrive and succeed in a home that is safe and permanent,” said Pam Maxwell, Sacramento Community Affairs Manager for U.S. Bank.
Big Day of Giving
Big Day of Giving is an annual tradition hosted each first Thursday of May by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, to bring together the Sacramento community in support of more than 700 local nonprofit organizations. The 24-hour giving blitz has raised more than $50 million since its inception in 2013.
This year, Habitat has an ambitious goal to raise $75,000 on Big Day of Giving to support continued construction efforts on projects like Habitat’s 13-home Mandolin Estates project, a project which will provide affordable housing to 60 low-income individuals, including 40 children. The project – already in motion with 5 homes under construction and 3 more to hopefully start this summer – supports local working families in need of a hand up toward home ownership and the opportunity to build equity through a 30-year, 0% interest equivalent affordable mortgage. The families who move into the development will contribute a total of 6,500 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their future homes and those of their neighbors. The Mandolin Estates project is one of many active Habitat home build, home preservation, and community projects currently underway which donations, like those made on Big Day of Giving, help make possible.
