Homebuying 101 Virtual Seminar Recap
On July 15th Greater Sacramento Habitat Young Professionals put on a virtual lunchtime seminar in partnership with MetroEDGE to bring together experts in the Sacramento housing sector with advice for YPs on what to expect when thinking about buying their first home. The panel, part of Habitat Young Professional’s work to support Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s vision of bringing people together to build a world where everyone (homeless, low-income, missing middle, and beyond) has a place to live, looked to go over the process, expectations, and financial picture behind buying a home to help demystify it for those who have yet to experience it.

Like so many of us, I found myself glued to the coverage of protests throughout our country this past week. I feel a range of emotions from sadness to anger to unrest over the unnecessary and unjust killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the countless other black lives who have been senselessly taken. At Habitat for Humanity, our vision is a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live, and yet it has become more apparent that there is so much work to be done to achieve that vision when members of our black community are often still not safe to jog, walk, or exist in the communities they live.

On April 10th, 2014 Sacramento Habitat premiered its first ever Fundraising Gala to a sold out crowd of 228 guests.
Following last year’s success, Sacramento Habitat looks forward to making its Gala an annual event and will be hosting the 2nd Annual Gala, themed “Hard Hats & High Heels”, on April 9th, 2015 at the Sacramento Scottish Rite Temple.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento planning 3 Global Village Trips to Nicaragua in 2015
In 2015, Sacramento Habitat will continue to expand on its tithe partnership with Hábitat para la Humanidad Nicaragua by hosting 3 more Global Village Trips.
Since 2012, Sacramento Habitat has hosted 6 Global Village Trips and sent over 100 local volunteers to Nicaragua, Sacramento Habitat’s sister tithe affiliate, to help build homes for families in need.
