Gala Night Of - FAQ page

Please note, the Habitat Gala is a ticketed event. This page is exclusively for ticketed guests of the 2021 Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento Gala.

When is the Habitat Gala? This year’s Habitat Gala will be held on Saturday, September 25th, 2021 at 6pm.

When will I receive my ticket? You will not receive a physical ticket to this event. When you are registered through the GiveSmart online ticketing system through your table sponsor or your purchase of individual tickets, you will receive a notification with a prompt to create a username and login. We encourage you to fill out all personal information, as well as submit your credit card information for the auction prior to the event for a faster check-in and check-out. The event itself will be a ticketless event with all registrants’ names on a list for entrance. Guests who are not on the list of pre-registered guests will not be admitted.

What do I need to bring to the Gala? Please bring your ID, a credit card to participate in the auction and fund-a-need, as well as your COVID-19 vaccination card (digital or on paper) OR a negative COVID test conducted within 72 hours of the event (for more information on proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative COVID tests, please please read about the Health and Safety Protocols prior to attending the Habitat Gala). While masks are not required for the event which is outdoors, guests should please bring a mask to wear while entering the event through the building and when using the restroom which is inside the Sutter Club (Habitat will also have masks available for guests as needed for entering indoor spaces).

What time does the Habitat Gala start and end? The Habitat Gala begins promptly at 6pm, with a reception followed by a program and after-party event with a live band. The after-party will conclude by 11:30 pm.

Where is the Habitat Gala? The Habitat Gala will take place on the rooftop of the Sutter Club, which is located at 1220 9th St, Sacramento, CA 95814. The reception, dinner and program, as well as after-party will all take place outdoors on the rooftop under the stars. Guests are asked to arrive and enter through the wooden doors of the Sutter Club on 9th Street. Health checks (proof of COVID vaccination cards or negative COVID test within 72 hours) and event check-in will take place in the first floor lobby of the Sutter Club.

Where do I park and will there be valet? Wine, beer, and FIZZ is all complimentary at the Habitat Gala so we highly recommend arranging to attend the event via Uber/Lyft or a designated driver. Complimentary valet is available to guests. Valet is available on the 9th Street side where guests will enter the Sutter Club for the event.

What can I expect at the event? The Habitat Gala is Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s premier fundraising event of the year! The event includes a reception, powerful program, live music, entertainment, dinner, live auction and fund-a-need, and will conclude with a high-energy after-party with dancing and a live band. The goal of this year’s Gala is to raise at least $250,000 to support Habitat’s ambitious goals to build and repair more homes in the coming year than any other year. For guests who have not attended the Habitat Gala recently, we encourage you to watch this brief video recap of our last in-person Gala to get a feel for what to expect at this year’s event.

What do I wear to the Habitat Gala? The Habitat Gala is a black-tie event. Most guests wear suits, tuxes, or floor length gowns.

Why am I being asked to give my credit card information? A large portion of the program will include the live auction and fund-a-need with our auctioneer, Freddie Silveria. Donations and auction purchases made during this time will help Habitat to build forward in our goal of impacting more people in our region with affordable housing in the coming year than ever before. All guests are encouraged to participate to their capacity, and be a part of the auction and fund-a-need where they can directly support changing lives through building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. The live auction can be previewed here.

Can’t I just submit my credit card when I arrive rather than putting it into the safe, secure system ahead of time? Access to and from the rooftop is limited to ONE entry. While you can provide your credit card at the event upon arrival at check-in, by putting in your credit card prior to the event, you help support a quicker and more efficient check-in and check-out process for yourself and our other guests.

Where can I view the live and silent auction items? The live auction is available for preview and the silent auction is open for bidding now at the Gala GiveSmart page. The silent auction is open for bidding for everyone, including members of the public! We encourage guests to please share the link with anyone who may be interested in supporting Habitat and building and preserving homes for those in need.

What is the Golden Ticket item and how can I participate? This year’s Habitat Gala will include a very exciting Golden Ticket opportunity where one lucky winner will win the chance for a night at Ventana in Big Sur! Only 100 tickets will be sold at $100 each for this Golden Ticket drawing. Donated by Raymond James Irwin, Chief Champagne Officer at FIZZ Champagne and Bubbles Bar, Ventana is one of the top hotels in the entire world (rated #10 on Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards in 2020 and a top 10 US News and Report best hotels in California!). Tickets will be available for purchase at the event only. For more information on this Golden Ticket item, click here.

I know someone who is not able to attend, but would like to make an absentee bid or donation at the event, how can this be coordinated? Fantastic! Please contact our Chief Development Officer Laine Himmelmann at or at (916) 440-1215 x1108.

I am interested in making a matching donation challenge and/or making a large gift at the Gala and I’d like to coordinate with Habitat beforehand, is that possible? Yes! Please contact our Chief Development Officer Laine Himmelmann at or at (916) 440-1215 x1108.

If I am the winning bidder, when do I receive my auction item? The live auction will take place exclusively during the event and, with the exception of items requiring delivery, will be given to guests at the auction check-out table upon exit from the event. The silent auction will be available for all to take part in (whether attending the event or not) and will close the following day on Sunday, September 26th at noon.  Unless otherwise noted, silent auction items will be available for pick up at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento (819 North 10th Street, Sacramento, CA 95811) on Tuesday, October 5th between the hours of 9:00am – 6:30pm. If you are unavailable to pick up your item on the pick-up day, please contact Habitat directly for alternative pick-up or delivery options. Please note that for delivery options, additional charges may be incurred at the expense of winner.

I have food allergies/restrictions, how do I make sure they are accommodated? When you receive your ticketed registration through purchasing your ticket or through your table sponsor, please select your entrée of choice and let us know if you have any additional restrictions/allergies for our team to be aware of. Our menu includes a meat, fish, and vegan/vegetarian option for the main course. Passed appetizers will also include meat, fish, and vegan options.

What food and beverages will be served at this year’s Habitat Gala? Appetizers, entrées, and deserts for this year’s Gala will be provided by the Sutter Club. Appetizers will include Ahi Tuna Lollipops, Beef Carpaccio, Vegan Marinated Cherry Tomato Crostini, and Vegetarian Stuffed Button Mushrooms. Entrée selections will include a Field Greens Salad accompanied by the guest’s preselected choice of Sous Vide Beef Tenderloin, Grilled Wild Salmon, or a Vegan Primavera Risotto featuring local, seasonal vegetables. All FIZZ for the evening will be provided by FIZZ Champagne and Bubbles bar in DOCO (reception FIZZ will be a Blanc de Blanc while VIP tables will enjoy a chilled bottle of Piper Heidsieck – the official Champagne of the Oscars!). Wine for the evening will be generously provided by Bogle Vineyards. The reception wine options will include Bogle Chenin Blanc, Reverence, and Rosé. Dinner wine will include a Bogle Reserve Chardonnay and Reserve Malbec.

Do I need to wear a mask or are there any additional COVID measures I should be aware of? We will be continually updating guidance for attendees as State and CDC guidance evolves. Please bring a mask with you for when you enter the event through the Sutter Club or go inside the building to use the restroom. Additionally, in an effort to ensure that this event can safely move forward, and on the advice of public health officials, all Habitat Gala attendees will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID test conducted within 72 hours of the event. These adjustments will help ensure that this important evening to build hope and homes can continue as planned. For more information, please read about the Health and Safety Protocols prior to attending the Habitat Gala.

I am interested in getting an additional ticket to this year’s event, is that possible? Unfortunately we had a limited number of only 300 tickets available for this year’s Habitat Gala event. Please email Chief Development Officer Laine Himmelmann at with any questions.

I have friends/colleagues/family members who are unable to attend the Gala, but would love to support Habitat. How can they do that? We encourage sharing the silent auction and fund-a-need page, which is open to members of the public to participate in. Individuals can also make a general donation, donate material goods to the Habitat ReStore, or sign up to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento on our website page here. For any questions on how to support Habitat outside of attending the Gala event, please contact Jilly Jefferson at

I have a question that was not answered on this page, who can I contact? For any questions not answered, please contact our Chief Development Officer Laine Himmelmann at or at (916) 440-1215 x1108.
