It was an emotional goodbye as we bid farewell to our longtime partner, our Ford F150 “Uncle Buck”, who helped us build many homes across the Sacramento area. Thankfully, Uncle Buck can continue to help build Habitat for Humanity homes with our Cars for Homes program!
Starting 14 years ago, Habitat’s Cars for Homes program has allowed individuals across the nation to donate their old vehicles (whether they run or not!) in order to help support Habitat. We accept almost all vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, farm equipment, construction equipment, and airplanes. With the help of Cars for Homes we do everything we can to ensure that the process of donating your vehicle is quick and easy.
How to donate your car
- Go to our donation wizard or call 1-877-277-4344
- Provide your vehicle and contact information.
- Schedule your car to be picked up.
Our Cars for Homes partner Advance Remarketing Services handles the title transfer, towing, and reporting of all vehicle donations and are Habitat’s authorized national agent for processing all of our vehicle donations. By signing the title directly to them, you are legally transferring ownership to Habitat for Humanity. Once your title is received and your vehicle is picked up, you are no longer responsible for the vehicle and can trust that it is in safe hands! Your vehicle (if possible) will then be sold through a national network on behalf of Habitat, and you will receive an acknowledgement letter providing your vehicle sales information. Additionally, once you receive this information you may be eligible to claim a tax deduction on your federal tax return for donating your car! Even if your vehicle can’t be sold, you can feel good in knowing that not only is your vehicle still helping raise funds for Habitat, but that you’re also contributing in helping to reduce pollution and environmental waste. Our Cars for Homes program has accepted more than 75,000 donated vehicles for recycling, helping to reallocate reusable car parts, batteries, tires, fluids, and steel. Recycling cars keeps steel out of landfills-enough to build nearly 45,000 steel-framed homes every year. The energy saved each year is enough to power approximately 18 million homes!
